KING OF BABYLON-LUCIFER-
ANTICHRIST
While the prophet Daniel
establishes Babylon as parallel with the final world power and provides many
details of its structure; Jeremiah 51 predicts Babylon’s judgment. He
prophesizes against the literal land that once existed, as well as its latter-
day counterpart. As with Tyrus, whose
king God identifies as Satan, God refers to the king of Babylon as Lucifer. The
Antichrist is also “the King of Babylon.”
Isaiah 14:4-6 records his evil rule and conquest:
4 That you will take up this proverb against the
King of Babylon, and say, How the oppressor has ceased! The golden city ceased!
5 The Lord has broken the staff of the wicked, the
scepter of the rulers. 6 He who struck the people in wrath with a
continual stroke, He who ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted and no one
hinders.
The passage later
identifies Satan as the King of Babylon, and describes Satan’s fall from
heaven. Isaiah 14:12-17 continues:
12 “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son
of the morning!
How you
are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the
nations! 13 For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend
into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of
the clouds,
I will be like the Most High.’ 15 Yet you shall be brought down to
Sheol,
To the lowest depths of the Pit.
16 “Those who see you will gaze at
you,
And consider
you, saying:
‘Is this
the man who made the earth tremble, Who shook kingdoms,
17 Who made the world as a wilderness And destroyed its
cities,
Who did
not open the house of his prisoners?’
In Scripture Babylon is dimensional. It is viewed both
politically, economically, and spiritually and is represented by the Whore of
Babylon. We see the Bible’s depiction drawing on true facts about the ancient
Empire and the idolatrous worship that went on there. It’s idolatry infected
Israel and drew the Israelites away from the God of Abraham and caused them to
sin against Him.
In examining the details about ancient Babylon we can
pinpoint the characteristics of the revived Roman empire, which will be the
final world empire.
We also learn the meaning of the evil Whore of Babylon and see
her role in Babylon and in the each of the empires that followed and especially
in the final revived Roman Empire that will launch the Antichrist.
In the Bible we see the King of Babylon associated with
Satan. As Christ gives Himself for His Bride
and joins with her in forever union, the
King of Babylon has his Whore who he later discards and destroys to exalt himself. We see many
contrasts in the Bible of God and Satan.
Along with them opposite God’s blessed land of Israel is Satan’s unholy
land of Babylon and as Jesus has the Bride of Christ, the Antichrist has the
Whore of Babylon.
