There is a phrase that shows up 16 times in the Old and New Testament, that is three words long and is very encouraging for us when we are going through difficult times. I will not go into all 16 verses but the phrase usually pertains to some events that are going to occur or are happening in the present. Jesus used the phrase in one verse twice. The phrase is “a little while.” Jesus told his disciples that He would be with them only for “a little while” and that in “a little while” again they will again see Him. John 16:16-17.
In the book of Jeremiah the prophet the term “a little while” talks about the rein of the wicked rulers who would oppress Israel. They would only oppress for a little while. Jeremiah 51:33
Isaiah 10:25 uses “a little while” to speak of the time period of God’s judgment.
Just as God allowed the wicked to rule for “a little while” so too our trials will only last a little while.
If you are going through difficult times know that your time of trial will only last “a little while.” Many times our trials and difficulties seem like they will last forever. This makes them the most difficult to endure, the thought that the difficulty will not end. In studying the use of the phrase a little while, and the fact that the Bible even uses the phrase, we can comfort ourselves in knowing that whatever we endure will only be for “a little while.”
This phrase greatly encourages me and I have found these three words to be the most uplifting during difficult times. Paul the apostle in the book of Hebrews tells the early church in Hebrews 10:36, “You have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:
For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry.
Paul concludes with in verse 38, “Now the just shall live by faith, But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.
Paul said in this verse that we must endure and it is only for “a little while” and our ultimate hope is the return of Jesus. Those of us who are watching Bible Prophecy know that the signs are nearly all in place and our trials may be cut short by the return of Jesus. If not, know that your trials are only for “a little while” and we all can endure anything for “a little while.” I hope this encourages you as it has encouraged me.
